Hi Bonnie:
To get to the truth of the matter, you really have to dig a bit deeper.
You first have to identify what kind of silver product was used in any study. You then have to determine the method of use. Finally, you have to determine the concentration and overall dosage over what time period.
Every study that I've viewed, concerning potential liver damage and respiratory problems, dealt with massive amounts of silver, often injected, in compound form.
Silver nitrates, citrates, and mild silver proteins are not colloidal silvers nor isolated silver products. Massive amounts of silver in these forms were used to induce a silver toxicity.
It's very similiar to warning people not to drink water, because if you drink six gallons of water in a day it would make you very ill.
You should understand the different types of products available:

You can see that 214 people were polled, who were using safe forms of isolated silver products for 2.2 years ( avg. ):

If there is any specific study you'd like to quote for review, I'd be glad to show the exact difference between the product used, dosage levels, and administration.
The only documented danger from using isolated silver, which, even so, has not been medically verified, is a very rare potential allergic reaction to pure silver.
If you are using the right type of a quality product, there is no real data, anecdotal or otherwise, to indicate any safety concern at all.
If you're using the wrong type of product, buyer beware.
Some people choose to to supplement their diet with acidophilus.
