M.A. Bardney asked:

I'd like to know some of the illnesses or diseases that have been healed by using this therapy.

Hi M.A.:

Balneotherapy, Hot Springs therapy, and hydrotherapy are used to address a wide variety of conditions.

Balneotherapists don't use this art to cure disease, but rather, to aid the body in recovery and healing.

Some conditions that can, if one has access to the waters or facilities, respond well:

Exclamation - Arthritis - Natural, geothermal hot springs from an artesian source produce far infrared heat generated from sonic wave forms. This is a deep and penetrating heat that provides rapid and temporary relief from many arthritic conditions. Some people have reported full recovery from long term use of the right hot springs... I would say that this is rarer.

Exclamation - Hypertension - Tepid hot springs: Using hot springs with the temperature set to just above body temperature has shown to be effective in the symptomatic relief of hypertension. Again, this is a temporary effect. But those who frequent hot springs and experience this effect ( such as every weekend ) achieve a higher quality of life.

Exclamation Skin Conditions - Some skin problems can be cleared up with balneotherapy.

Muscle fatigue, sports injuries, etc. respond very well.

For more information, I recommend the book by Nathaniel Altman: Healing Springs.

Kind Regards,

My parents used to go to Hot Springs, Arkansas every year for 2 weeks to take the hot mineral baths. They felt it helped their arthritis.
