I rescued 14 cats from a neighbor who went to a nursing home. They were not fed well and given filthy water. I put them in my basement and the smell was so bad I could smell it through my whole house. At first I regretted my decision of taking them home. They all had the runs with lots of mucus.

All were adults except for 5 kittens. I mixed 2 large cans of cat food with 1 heaping scoop of sodium bentonite clay and added extra water and fed this to them daily. After 2 weeks all the adults were going normal and the smell is almost gone. The 5 kittens are still having problems after 6 weeks so I am mixing 1 TBS of clay in a tea cup with water and feeding them 4 eye droppers full daily and sometimes more.

The smell is under control but the kittens are still loose (but not as loose). At least they are not in the litter box more than 4 times daily. I know had I not slowed down the runs they would have died of dehydration. All the kittens are growing well and active and I'm hoping they are better soon.

Wish us well,

Vamp

Hi Vampyra:

Nicely done. Don't be afraid of giving the kittens more clay in order to eliminate the bowel conditions.

My cat eats a species-approp. diet -- raw meats, fat, skin, bones, organs, and he never drinks water, getting all moisture from his food. Because of this diet, his system is highly acidic, like its supposed to be. And I try to feed him twice daily 12 hrs apart for his body to have detox time. So how would the alkalizing effect of clay be beneficial to him?

I am one that I do not believe in the raw diet. There are several opinions on it. I feed cat food because I know my cats get the vitamins they need. I don't want to be guessing because I am not a scientist.

The reason I gave clay is because these cats I rescued had the runs and it slowed things down so they wouldn't become dehydrated. I could not afford to feed all these cats anything other than dry cat food. I would not feed a healthy cat clay.
