Hi, I read some parts of the site www.silvermedicine.org -- it claims that this is it's forum.

Anyway, I wonder if something could be clarified to me. There is the section at http://www.silvermedicine.org/safety.html which concludes by summing up the information.

What it says is that a critical dose over a lifetime is about 3.8 g
And that a person could be under the critical dose if they get 1.09 mg each day throughout their lives.

I don't understand the math on that.

When I do the math, I get:

dailydose(mg/day)=(3.8 g)*(1000mg/g) / (100 yrs of life * 365 days/yr)

solving that says that dailydose=0.104 mg/day which is about 1/10 of the 1.09 claimed.

What am I missing?

Greetings!

I believe the quoted material is:

One teaspoon of 5 ppm colloidal silver contains about 25 micrograms of silver, or .025 milligrams of silver. Six teaspoons, the equivalent of one fluid ounce, therefore contains .15 milligrams of silver. The EPA's critical dose for a 160 lb. adult is 1.09 milligrams daily. Taking one ounce of colloidal silver daily, according to EPA guidelines, is well below the critical daily intake for the development of argyria. Four ounces daily would equal around .6 milligrams.

One ounce of 5PPM CS:

.15 mg * 365 = 54.75 mg per year; 10 years = 547.5mg; 50 years is 2737.5.

The EPA figure is based on the average adult, who will likely not live 100 years. The RISK studies vary on the opinion of what the critical dose is; if you read the papers, it is from 3 - 12 grams, depending on the study.

The actual rfd is calculated at .005 mg per kg. For a 160 lb average adult, that translates to about 1.76mg/day.

As far as the math not working out perfectly, based on 3 grams, yes. The EPA does not share the exact calculation method for its RFD. That question would have to be addressed to them!

Our statement was that individuals can defer to the EPA RFD for maximum safety.

I've changed the wording a bit on that page to help clarify.

Thanks!
