Joel Asked:

"I was wondering what the difference was between bentonite and argiletz clay for internal use?"

Hi Joel:

It depends which Argiletz Clay. Argiletz carries a green french montmorillonite, and a green Illite.

The Illite is quite different, as it is a mica rather than a smectite. The particle sizes, I believe, are smaller than smectites'.

The French montmorillonites are very similiar to the bentonites used for health purposes here in the U.S.

In the end, it's a matter of personal preference, as different people have shared different views. When I find a quality clay that I feel works well, I don't replace any other clay, I simply add it to my preferred collection of sources.

Nobody has done any scientific work that demonstrates one specific clay is better than another, for health purposes.

Kind Regards

Hi Jason

Here is the structural analysis of the two clays I have asked about on Friday. Would you please tell me which one would be best to use internally and externally.

Sodium Bentonite:
· High montmorillonite content · High cation exchange
· Low grit · Low abrasiveness
· High purity · Low addition rates
· High green strength · Good bonding properties
TYPICAL PROPERTIES
· Mineralogy Montmorillonite >85% (typically 90 to 95%)
Quartz, Mica, Kaolinite <15%
· Cation exchange capacity >80 meq/100g
· pH 10-10,5
· Swelling volume 22 – 26 (ml/2g)
· Viscosity (Baroid funnel, 5% suspension) 25 – 32 (immediate)
28 – 45 (10 minutes)
Grading retained <5% on 150 micron
 Moisture 8 – 15%
TYPICAL CHEMISTRY
SiO2 59.1% MgO 4.0%
Al2O3 18.6% K2O 0.3%
Fe2O3 4.4% Na2O 2.5%
CaO 1.9% LOI 8.9%

Calcium Bentonite:
TYPICAL CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
SiO2 58,2 %
Al2O3 17,7 %
Fe2O3 6,25%
CaO 1,6 %
MgO 3,3%
K2O 0,59%
Na2O 0,2%
P2O5 0,07%
TiO2 0,33%
L.O.I. 11,4%
TYPICAL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Moisture 8 – 15%
pH 7,8 – 8,3
Bulk Density 0,9 – 1,04g/cm3
Hardness (Mohs) 1,0 – 1,5
Dispersion Disperses readily in water
without formation of lumps
Grit Content <2 %
Grading retained 2 – 12% on 150 micron
Or 1% max. on 53 micron
Packing 40kg paper bags

I will really appreciate your opinion. I can only buy one, as I need to buy 40 kg bags, so that is why I need to know which one will be superior.

Regards
Martinette

Hi Martinette:

Most likely, the calcium bentonite would be superior for external and internal use; the sodium bentonite may be better for colon cleansing, but rarely have I seen a sodium bentonite that is better than a calcium bentonite for external use.

Kind Regards,

Jason

Dear Jason

Thank you very much for your input. I will post a reply once I have bought and tried it out.

Kind regards
Martinette
