I've heard it said that 'skin is our largest organ' so keeping your skin healthy is very important for overal health and wellbeing.

There are many types of clays and minerals that serve many different purposes in the beauty industry, its not a matter of just getting a clay mask, slapping it on your face and then rinsing it off when its dry.
those who do usually dont think much on the results and many complain that the clay left their skin dried out.

Why? Because they were using the wrong clay!

If you have dry skin, look for a clay that has an acid pH and contains a lot of iron, ususally a red or pink clay, as iron can help the skin to become moist. Magnetite in clay (usually known as magnetic clay) is also high in iron.

However a clay with a lot of potassium will counteract this.
If your skin is oily like mine then you would look for a clay with a slightly alkaline pH and high in calcium and potassium to draw out excess oils.
Too busy to bother with clay masks all the time? Then an alternative is to use it in the shower or bath as a scrub or body wash.

Yes thats right i wash with dirt! Laughing

I have dry skin. Do you have a product recommendation for a clay that would be useful for my skin?

depending on where you are from as to what is available.
i have heard the terrasilk masks are good for dry skin as is our own moisture blend.
if you look for a clay mask with a low pH and high in iron, possibly a red or pink mask would be less drying.
clay masks dont dry the skin out as do some soaps, it is only a couple of hours before natural oils return.

What about Body Wraps that use clay for slimming purposes...do they work? Are they harmful to your body?

Clay wraps and/or herbal wraps are excellent for detoxification purposes, as long as they are done correctly; especially after a steam sauna.

Whether or not they work for weight loss, I don't know.

ive never tried a weight loss wrap, too skiny myself, i have heard they remove excess fluids from the body and have heard some very positive results, my own concern would be as to weather there is any dehydration loosing so much fluid at once.
i have also heard this is not a permanent answer to weight loss as the fluids soon return
as for detox wraps clays and zeolites are great for clearing the pores and removing toxins from your system. add a few dried herbs (depending on the results you require) for extra benifits.

i know exactly how you feel Clementina,
i did notice there were suptle changes in my skins oilyness during different seasons, for instance it isnt as oily during summer. so i began to take note of what i was doing different.
turns out during summer when its too hot to cook i eat a lot more salads and healthy foods. our diet can effect a lot of things not only our health internally but externally as well. medication can also have effects on our complexion as well as hormones (it's great being a woman isnt it?)
some research showed me that many things can contribute to oily skin, check this site out: http://1stholistic.com/Beauty/skin/skin_oily_skin.htm

Well said, Vickey!

The soft tissue PH level is very important to manage with skin conditions. Proper diet is very important for skin health ( I speak from much experience! ).

Some easy, convenient, and healthy inclusions:

Plenty of fresh lemon water

Medicinal doses of MSM

Proper Skin cleansing ( such as, of course, great clays )

Steam Sauna Therapy ( except when contra-indicated )

ESPECIALLY ozone baths and ozone saunas, when properly managed.

I've always been cursed ( self-cursed, of course ) with a poor attention to diet.

For those who try and think they can but sometimes can't... I strongly recommend a whole food supplement. One of the best is the "Ultimate Meal".

Bulk MSM

PH Testing strips for saliva

"The Ultimate Meal" ingredients - Available at many health food stores and online vendors, such as vitasource.com.

Using a sauna to lose weight is extremely unhealthy. All it does it take very necessary water out of your body and leaves you dehydrated. You will gain it all back because your body needs you to replenish that water. All you are doing for yourself is making yourself tired and useless to function. That's my 2 cents.

Greetings!

While I understand your sentiment, I strongly disagree that using a sauna is unhealthy because it dehyrates the body.

This isn't just my two cents, it's backed by every envirnomental medicine specialist that I am aware of.

I take a sauna every day. It doesn't make one tired, it makes one energetic; it doesn't make one useless, it makes one clear headed.

It reactivates the natural thirst mechanism of the body ( which, for many people, doesn't function properly due to heavy use of non-hydrating drinks ).

As Dr. Paua-Baillie-Hamilton, MD, PhD., points out in "Toxic Overload", sometimes weight gain and weight problems can be caused by general toxicity.

In such cases, all cleansing protocols can help in weight reduction, as a part of a healthy lifestyle. These people know who they are. They eat relatively sanely, they work out regularly, and they still maintain a weight problem that at one time they did not have.

Of course, one should consider NOT using chlorinated water in a steam sauna.

There are alot of crazy ideologies out there that are not very well thought out concerning water.

As an example, if we take the dehydration issue presented at face value, then an individual should NEVER work out and work up a sweat... That is an act of dehydration as well.

Best Regards,

My clay has a PH of 6. What about adding cider vinegar to lower the PH?
