I bought 5lbs of Bentonite from my local clay store the other day, for the super cheap price of $2.75. I also bought a little Montmorillonite from a health food store to add into a bath. The clay store had no idea what type of Bentonite it was that I had bought, nor the difference between the types of Bentonite. This stuff is packaged in bulk by the store, and the guy working there didn't know who the supplier was. Just wondering if it really matters which type it is? Also, is there any way for me to be able to tell the purity of this stuff?
I also found a Healing Center in my town that has in-house clay baths, using LL's Magnetic Clay. I wonder if I should just do it there so I don't mess up my old pipes, and septic tank. Thanks!

Hi -

The ceramics store should have a material datasheet for the clay; you could request a copy, they are supposed to keep one on file.

All clays are different; in that sense it does matter. However, there is currently no way to tell how one bentonite/montmorillonite clay might be better than another.

I've had people report excellent results with standard technical grade bentonite.

The best way to tell is to try more than one, and see how you respond.

As far as doing clay baths at the healing center, that's a judgment call.

Kind Regards,

LL's magnetic clay costs an outrageous $10 per pound! Why?
Where can I get American Colloid HPM-20 for a cheap price???

Greetings,

Unless you are able to buy a very large amount of clay, you'll need to try to find a local source for any bulk clays you'd like to experiment with.

If you care to share your location, perhaps I can assist.

Kind Regards,
