Is there any benefit to using clay internally versus externally (as a clay bath) for general detoxification? If clay taken internally cannot be absorbed into the bloodstream how does it detoxify the rest of the body?

Hi Deepak:

I always recommend combining internal clay with external use, although of course it is not necessary.

Internal use is most commonly done for detoxifcation of the digestive system, including the stomach and intestines.

However, not all clay action has been explained scientifically. I once viewed a write up by a very talented French Homeopathic doctor. By utilizing krilian photography [ before and after images ], he demonstrated that the body exhibited a detoxification reaction within seconds of adding clay to the mouth. He did this by taking images of the foot.

While traditional "science" would not be so impressed with such a methodology, it was obvious that there was some sort of reaction that could be documented and repeated.

Now, obviously, if clay use internally results in improved function of the small and/or large intestines, then the body will be better able to cleanse itself.

Best Regards!

Hi Deepak

I just want to add a few words to what Jason has said, based on my personal experience of ingesting clay.

I have been taking blue Cambrian clay (the smectite group) internally for 3 years, stopping occasionally for a month or so. I can compare the difference in how I feel when I do not take the clay as compared to when I do.

I feel sluggish, tired and low on energy during the periods of withdrawal. When I do take it it works as a mild laxative. But avoid taking it just before or after meals - it can cause constipation (I am talking from my experience).

Taking clay also is excellent for mineral supplementation - clays are very rich in minerals, and they provide the right amount of the minerals the body needs, taking away the ones which are in excess - through the ionic exchange process. Adsorption/absorption also works well in the body detox.
I have also been taking clay baths occasionally, which ensure detox through the skin. Two of the main functions of the skin are elimination and absorption, which is why clays work so well - again thanks to the ionic exchange process.

I am a big fan of clays and would recommend them to anyone. It gives us all the elements we need - let the body do the rest. Of course, in cases of acute, or any medical conditions, medical advice should be sought immediately.

Kind regards
