Dear Friends,

In early October the New Yorker Magazine published an article “How

childbirth went industrial.” If you read it, you probably became pretty

incensed by the misinformation, omissions and outright lies about

childbirth that we have, unfortunately, come to expect from the world of

organized medicine. The author, Atul Gawande, is an Assistant Professor

of Surgery and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy

and Management, at Harvard Medical School.



Thankfully, Henci Goer has prepared a detailed critique: "How Childbirth

Went Industrial: A Deconstruction," and Mothering Magazine has made it
