Greetings, all:

Here is a series of posts from our email list about using clay poultices for various eye conditions ( names removed ):

-----------------------

I am an allopathic doctor and a naturopathic doctor, in Paris, France.
Gummyness of eyes - that means secretions, doesn't it ? From a naturopathic point of view, this is caused by some toxics that are being chased out of the body.

For example I have had to treat :

- A new born baby with daily eye secretions... The significance being that the baby took the mother's toxins when it was feeding from the mother's blood in the uterus, and later - thanks to its vitality - expelled those toxics out through eye secretions.

- My own daughter, 6 years old and with magnificent health and pink cheeks : One day, some friend poured "eau de cologne", perfume, all over her head. When she awoke the NEXT morning she called out "mummy i cannot open my eyes", in fact she had a thick pack of dried secretions on both eyes (she had never ever had that before), and the eyelids were completely sealed ! It took half an hour in a hot shower bath that day to wash it out, and then she awoke every morning of the following week with eye secretions, diministhing from day to day (until all the "eau de cologne" spilled on the head skin and absorbed through the skin pores was expelled).

External clay works miracles on the eyes (infection, perforation); it is THE remedy for the eyes, anthroposophic doctors (Rudolf Steiner school) have an explanation : they say that since clay is made mostly of silicate, and that silicate is the analogy (?) of light...

We have had a number of experiences with clay relating to 'eyes'. My husbands vision had been getting worse and his glasses no longer were sufficient with their then present prescription. We went to a Dr. to get a new prescription. After he checked the eyes he did make out a prescription but strongly suggested we first go to an eye specialist. He didn't say exactly, but there seemed to be something wrong at the back of one of his eyes. He even got an appointment for the next day. That evening we decided it couldn't hurt to put a clay poultice on the eye at least for a while, which we did. After the examination the next day (and even a picture taken of the inside of the eye,) the Dr. concluded that the eye was 'getting' old. There was a 'spot' on the retina but he couldn't tell that it was anything to worry about but suggested a follow-up checkup in 6 months. The most interesting part to us was that after the clay poultice my husband's prescription no longer needed changing. He wore the same glasses for quite a while longer but not with a new prescription.

Another man did have a retina detachment. He got a new prescription after a laser reattachment procedure. Then he decided to try a clay poultice. Rather interestingly enough He had to quit wearing the new prescription glasses and return to his old prescription glasses. He also used clay at a later time when he had a real bad headache seemingly eye related (not sure on that one though) with very positive results.

Another time my husband got a drop of a 'cleaner' for PVC plumbing pipes in his eye. We put a wet clay poultice over the eye. After about 5-6 minutes he couldn't stand it any longer so I took it off. With it came a bunch of 'gunk' (I called it, rather slimy mucus substance). We put a new 'pack' on it. That was tolerated for about 8-10 minutes before we again had to remove it. Again there was more 'gunk'. I can't remember if we did it a third time but after that the eye seemed to be OK.

We have basically used sodium bentonite clay for all of the above. I have experimented with pascilite but it didn't seem to give us the positive results so we haven't used it much.

--- --- --- --- ---

I have found that clay poultices placed upon the eyes ( closed ) is excellent for addressing both eye infections and eye strain. I've received more than one report of individuals reducing their eyeglass prescriptions after long term clay use.
