I have never used clay therapy for a trigger thumb. However, it certainly wouldn't hurt to use it.
One would make a clay paste/magma, and use a clay pack ( cover the entire thumb with clay about 1/2" thick ), and then wrap the thumb with a clean dressing prior to going to sleep.
Do this nightly for a week, and watch carefully for signs of improvement.

Above are some links to other clay sites, including some clay providers. The clay marketed by Natures Body Beautiful is a good external clay; so are Terramin and Pascalite. Sometimes one clay doesn't work as well for an individual as another.
