Hello, I picked up a little bag of 'grey clay' last night at the local health food store. They sell it in 'bulk', they have it in buckets and you pay by weight. They have green, white and grey. Green and white were about 5$ per pound, and the grey was only 2.43$/pound so I bought some of the gray. Now after reading your site I have come to understand that bentonite can be grey and green...? (is this right?) before reading here, I always just thought that grey clay= bentonite.
Anyways, I bought it mainly to try some clay baths and do some face masks but as I went to mix a bit up for a mask, no matter how much I mixed/stirred it around, I could not make these 'chunks' dissapear and get the pasty/creamy texture needed to apply it to the face. I tried adding more water and even letting it sit for about an hour, but in the end I was still left with this grey water with chunks in it, almost like the consistency of a soup. It was definately no good for a mask so I just dumped it in the tub and bathed with it.
So what I am wondering is if I did something wrong while mixing, or could it just be that this is a low quality clay? or maybe it's just 'no good' anymore do to being exposed to too much air because of the way they sell it? They also had boxes of Cattier green clay in surfine and 'concassée' (which I think is like little pellets), as well as some tubes of argiletz, but the price was quite high compared to this bulk stuff. I called the store to see if they could tell me where they get it from and why it might be 'chunking' on me. But the person who knows most of this stuff was not there.
any input is greatly appreciated, thanks! |

I have some herbal knowledge, but it definitely sounds like the powder may be of poor quality. You may want to mix that separate to smooth it out and then add the other ingredients.
Hope this helps!

| That is a tough one. I would look around Google to see if you can get some more info. |

|
|
I have spent a lot of time on the INTERNET in searching for clay properties and from the different literatures I came across, it seems as though the absorption power of the clay is explained in a non-consistent way.
Perry's book refer to clay’s efficacy rate (e.g., efficacy ratio of Calcium Bentonite Clays is 31 to 1), whilst others talk about Meq/gr, e.g., Calcium Bentonite has 60-70 Meq/gr (million equivalents per 100gr). Though the earlier is more user friendly to the public, not many companies/suppliers can quote any of them (many suppliers have no clue about this issue and when questioned, could not even get it from their suppliers).
Could anybody be kind enough to through some more light on this confusion and most importantly, relate one 'unit' system to another (by a factor?).
Many thanks
